La Paz ABC prexy ready to vacate post

The president of the Association of Barangay Captains La Paz district here said he is willing to vacate his post as president but within the ambit of due process.

ABC La Paz president Carlos Guarin said the reported installation of an officer incharge of the district has no meaning on him since this was not done legally.

“I am willing to vacate the position but they must give me due courtesy because I am also giving them full respect,” Guarin said referring to 14 barangay captains who reportedly abandoned him and selected Ingore Brgy. Capt. Ernie Poral to be the ABC OIC district president.

“But I believe majority of barangay captains in this city will see the real reason and will soon join me to support Treñas,” Guarin said.

La Paz district has 25 barangays and is one of the 7 districts of this city. Only 11 barangay captains are reportedly with Guarin who admitted full political loyalty to incumbent city mayor Jerry P. Treñas.

Guarin said that after Treñas declared this month his intention to severe political ties from the group of Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Raul Gonzalez Sr. and his son, Cong. Raul T. Gonzalez Jr. of the administration’s Lakas Kampi CMD party, political factions arose that divided the loyalty of barangay chiefs between two political camps.

Guarin, a retired police officer, said he remains politically loyal to Treñas and will give his full support to the city mayor who earlier declared his intention to run for congressman against the younger Gonzalez.

The district chief said he will be meeting all the district barangay chiefs next week to discuss the ongoing development projects in their barangays. But he said the meeting will be sans partisan and that he had been serving the barangay captains without political biases.

Iloilo City has a total of 180 barangays and aside from La Paz district, ABC city proper district president Roberto Divinagracia is also reportedly under fire for his political loyalty to Treñas.

Out of 45 barangays in the city proper, only 9 barangays are reported to be directly committed to Divinagracia. Majority of barangay captains have reportedly selected another barangay chief to head the ABC district of the city proper as officer incharge.
