City to host 3 intl events this month
This highly urbanized city in the Visayas is raring to host at least three international events before the end of November.
According to city mayor Jerry P. Treñas, the city is currently preparing for these events envisioned to once again, put the city in the international map of important convention destination in the country.
He likewise call on the barangays to do extra effort in cleaning up the barangays and for the persons involved in garbage collection to live up to name of the city as environment-friendly and the cleanest city in Western Visayas.
Candidates of the 2009 Miss Earth competition will vie in the Talent Search portion of the competition to be held at Central Philippine University (CPU) on Tuesday, November 17. But before that, the international candidates will pay a courtesy call at the city m mayor’s office in the morning.
On November 28 to December 2, 2009, more than 2,000 delegates composed of elementary pupils and parents from 23 countries in the world will converge in this city to participate in the first International Mathematics Competition.
On November 24-26, 2009, delegates to the 2nd International Symposium on Vermi Technology lead by the University of the Philippines will be in this city to conduct an international conference on the latest vermiculture technology.
Treñas said the city is looking forward to these international events and the events organizers’ trust on the capability of the Iloilo City government and the private sector to hold such events.
The city mayor also said that the city is included in 22 countries in the Association of Southeast Asia Nations (ASEAN) to get technical assistance from the German Technical Assistance (GTZ) for clean air programs.
