City included in AIM, WB business study

This southern highly urbanized city in the Visayas is included in the global business study of Doing Business in the Philippines Round 2 conducted by the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) Policy Center, World Bank Group, International Finance Corp. in cooperation with the Australian and Canadian governments and the Local Implementation of National Competitiveness for Economic Growth (LINC-EG) project.

This was disclosed by Atty. Ma. Lourdes Sereno, executive director of the AIM Policy Center after conferring with city mayor Jerry P. Treñas on the second study covering 25 cities in the country.

In the Philippine cities, the time motion business survey will cover three areas of indicators and business regulations such as starting a business, dealing with construction permits and registering property.

Sereno said that for each of these indicator areas, the project will identify the existing good practices existing across the Philippine cities and recommend reforms based on other examples from within the Philippines and with the 183 economies worldwide measured by the doing Business project.

The report to be submit after the May 2010 elections, will also measure the progress made since the December 2007 Round One study in 20 cities in the country.

The second study will focus on selected cities in Luzon such as Batangas, Caloocan, Las Piñas, Makati, Malabon, Mandaluyong, Manila, Marikina, Muntinlupa, Navotas, Parañaque, Pasay, Pasig, Quezon City, San Juan, Taguig and Valenzuela; cities in the Visayas such as Cebu, Iloilo, Lapu-lapu and Mandaue; and cities in Mindanao such Cagayan de Oro, Davao, General Santos and Zamboanga.

In Iloilo, the study will interview and get reactions of 12 businessmen respondents on the procedures of city hall in dealing with the taxpayers and business.
